Plot to undergo military training at ethnic armed organizations and carry out bomb attacks in Yangon exposed

Security forces are conducting necessary checks and search opera-tions with special care to expose and arrest saboteurs and NLD members/supporters, before they commit bomb attacks in some cities of the country, through prior informa-tion.

In doing so, the security  forces, acting on an information about the plot to blow up explosives in Yankin Township, Yangon Region and undergo training at ethnic armed organizations, searched the home of Khin Nyein Thu at Room No 18, building No. 33, Yannaing Lane 16, Ward 4, Yankin Township and arrested six persons, Khin Nyein Thu, 31, daughter of U Myat Chal, Yannaing Soe, 29, son of U Aye Soe, Min Khant Naung,19, son of U Zaw Win Naing, Swan Pyae Lin, 19, son of U Ko Ko Aung, Wunna Tun, 21, son of U Soe Min Tun and Hsu Lin Htet, 19, daughter of U Aung Ko Ko Lwin, together with 48 homemade mines, 20 gelignite sticks, 20 detonators, 10 feet of ignition rope and other terrorism-related materials on 17 April 2021.

The group led by the suspect, Khin Nyein Thu, torched Kyawkya monhinga shop and Curvy (women’s apparel store) in Yankin Township, JJ Pun (machinery shop and office) in Bahan Township and committed terrorist acts in Yankin Township.

According to the confession of arrestee Khin Nyein Thu, Thura Aung, 23, son of U Myo Kyaw, Swan Htet Hlaing Thaw, 20, son of U Kyin Htwe, Phone Myat Win, 21, son of U Ye Win and Sithu with father name under scrutiny left for an ethnic armed organization in Kayah State to attend the military training. Security forces contacted each other and then arrested three persons including Thura Aung at Pekhon checkpoint on 18 April, and Sithu escaped from the scene.

Based on their confessions, Kaung Hset Soe, 20, son of U Hsan Lwin, who managed to attend the military training at an ethnic armed organization in Kayah State, was arrested at his house in Yankin Township on 18 April and Paing Thant (a) Joe, 32, son of U Hsan Myaint at No 18/A-1/D on Shwe Yadana Street in Ward 6 of Mayan-gon Township with about two viss of white gunpowder, about 50 ticals of yellow gunpowder, about 30 feet long ignition rope, 73 anti-govern-ment vinyl sheets, computer and accessories, other equipment and items used in the terrorist acts.

According to the confessions of the arrestees, Kyaw Ko Ko, 35, son of U Tin Win was arrested at his house in South Okkalapa Township with one homemade grenade, seven sticks of gelignite, eight detonators and 7.5 feet long ignition rope, Than Htet Ko Ko, 31, son of U Than Oo with a package of 10 smoke bombs and one package of about 30 ticals of gunpowder and mate-rials used in terrorist acts, Khant Sithu, 25, son of U Than Naing and Phyo Maung Maung Hein, 24, son of U Zaw Hein with three home-made bombs, Hein Wai Yan, 21, son of U Mya Kyaing and Wai Lin Tun, 35, son of U Thein Tun with 55 smoke bombs and materials used in terrorist acts on 29 April. In conducting the investigation, suspect Khant Sithu and members attacked at Wa Ha Ha mobile and accessories shop in South Okkalapa Township with homemade mine.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Zeya Naing, 19, son of U Tin Khaing, Thurein Lin, 17, son of U Min Zaw Zin, Hein Min Thu, 17, son of U Zaw Min, Zwe Marn Pyae, 17, son of U Htay Aung, Min Thant Han, 17, son of U Wunna Soe, Aung Myat Moe, 25, son of U Khin Aung Lwin, Htet Lwin Aung, 24, son of U Than Lwin, Yoon Nadi Lwin, 19, daughter of U Than Lwin, and Kyaw Htin, 40, son of U Aung Naing at their respective homes in South Oakka-lapa Township on 30 April.

Moreover, Soe Ko Ko, 25, son of U Aye Ko was arrested on Lay-daukkan Road in Thingangyun Township on 1 May; Nay Lin Tun (aka) Ashe Gyi, 26, son of U Saw Hlaing, near Nandawin Market in South Oakkalapa Township on 2 May; and Phyo Wai Win (aka) Bagyi Phyo, 43, son of U Win Kyi, and Aung Thu Phyo, 27, son of U Hla Htay, at Pyae Chan Khit Tea Shop on the corner of Thumingala Street and Inwa Street in South Oakkalapa Township on 6 May.

After interrogation, it was learnt that suspect Soe Ko Ko and his group got involved in a bomb blast on a YBS No.14 bus in the compound of Parami Bus Terminal in South Oakkalapa Township.

The verbal statements of those detainees led to the arrest of Khun Pyae Phyo, 26, son of U Nyan Tun, Pyae Sone, 26, son of U Maung Win, Htet Arkar, 22,  son of U Khin Maung, Yazar Phyo, 18, son of U Khin Shwe; Shine Htet Aung, 18, son of U Zaw Win, Ko Ko Maung,

34, son of U Soe Thant, Sit Min Hein, 23, son of U Soe Lwin, and Nanda Sit Aung, 21, son of U Zeyar Lwin, living in Thakayta Township were arrested on 8 May. After their questioning, authorities sear-ched the Standard Lab in Shu-

khintha Road in Thakayta Township on 9 May and seized two boxes of sodium chloride, four boxes of black gunpowder, two boxes of magnesium, one bag of potassium nitrate and related precu-rsors.

The search of  Takhundine Tawya Monastery in Thakayta Township led to the seizure of six handmade bombs, one time bomb, four gre-nades (whose brand under scrutiny) and precursors used in detonations. The search of  Thada Wimuti Mona-stery in Thanlyin Township led to the seizure of 20 handmade bombs, three boxes of black gunpowder, a roll of 10 feet long ignition rope, one bag of potassium nitrate and precursors used in detonations. When Thayagon Monastery in Thanlyin Township was searched, U Win Zaw (aka) U Yasa Dhamma, 38, son of U Aung Thein, was arrested together with one bag of potassium nitrate, one packet of mixed gunpowder and charcoal and precursors used in detonations.

The 39 persons including Khin Nyein Thu were arrested and de-tained for committing acts to harm State peace and stability and rule of law. Continued measures will be taken to take effective legal action against them.
