Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspects reconstruction of Haw Palace (Haw Hkum Tsamvi) of Hsenwi Sawbwa Hkun Hsang Ton Hong

Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by entourages, the Shan State chief minister, the commander of the North Eastern Command and officials, inspected the reconstruction of the glorious Haw Palace (Haw Hkum Tsamvi) of Hsenwi Sawbwa Hkun Hsang Ton Hong this morning.

Greeted warmly with traditional drum dances First, the Senior General andparty arrived at the reconstruction site of the Haw Palace and were  cordially greeted by Township Administrator U Nay Lin Tun, departmental officials, town elders and local residents performing Shan traditional drum dances.

Then, the Senior General and party inspected the small-scaled models of the Haw Palace and heard reports on construction and completion of the Haw and tasks to be carried out in the future presented by town elders U Sai Win Khaing and Ma Nan Long Khay and Director Maj-Gen Myo Thant of the Directorate of Military Engineers.

Grandeur of historical traditions of country and region must be highlighted After hearing the reports, the Senior General said efforts must be made to reconstruct the Haw in its original features as much as possible by studying historical records.

On completion of the building, it is necessary to make designs to display documentary photographs, records, historic ancient items inside the building and carry out interior decoration properly.

Measures have been taken to reconstruct the Mongpawn Haw Palace of Mongpawn Sawbwa Sao San Htun and the Kengtung Haw Palace of Sawbwa Sao Kawng Kiao Intaleng in accordance with the wishes of the royal families and local residents.

The reconstruction of the Mongpawn Haw Palace was fully completed on 5 February 2021 and the reconstruction of the Kengtung Haw Palace was started on 17 February this year.

 The renovation of historic and religious edifices in their original styles can highlight the grandeur of the historical traditions of the country and respective regions and will contribute to the socioeconomic development of local residents.

As for the reconstruction of the Haw, it can be seen that historic buildings and heritage are reconstructed or renovated and designated as museums to enable the posteries to study history in the world.

Then, the Senior General and party inspected the construction tasks of the Haw and made necessary coordination.

Gratitude expressed for reconstruction of historic monument Hsenwi Haw Afterwards, the Senior General met with departmental personnel and town elders in the cultural exhibition hall in the compound of the Haw, where town elder U Sai Myo Nyunt expressed his deep gratitude for reconstruction of the historical monument Haw for the development of regional development and his hope that the Haw, which is scheduled to be completed soon, will contribute a lot to regional development and promised on behalf of local residents to carry out maintenance tasks for the durability of the Haw before residents reported to the Senior General on the needs for water supply tasks.

Needs for socioeconomic development in Hsenwi fulfilled Then, the Senior General said he has been in Hsenwi to help fulfil the needs for the reconstruction of the Haw and regional development. Hsenwi is an economically strategic town and after considering the development situation of the town, it was found that regional development tasks can be implemented by highlighting cultural traditions as an immediate measure.

Therefore, measures were taken to reconstruct the Haw. As doing so requires educated human resources instilled with science and technology, it is important to promote education.

Although the government has taken measures to enable all citizens to acquire education, only those who go to school and study lessons will become intellectuals. Only intellectuals can contribute to regional development.

Efforts have been made to reopen schools even amidst the outbreak of COVID-19 to prevent students from lagging behind others and the waste of an academic year. As the current academic year for basic education has been concluded, it is necessary to be prepared to accelerate efforts for the upcoming academic year. It is important to exert efforts for turning the socioeconomic development of individuals into that of the region.

Regional development requires not only technicians but also effective utilization of favourable conditions in the region. Efforts must be made to manufacture value-added products in the region and the government will offer assistance for agriculture and livestock breeding technologies and investment. Then, the Senior General comprehensively discussed the prospects for enhancing the agriculture and livestock breeding sector and regional development in Hsewni.

Afterwards, the Senior General presented foodstuffs for departmental personnel and town elders in Hsenwi to town elder U Sai Myo Nyunt.

The Hsenwi Haw Palace was built in 1910 AD (1272 ME) by Dasaa Dhamma Yaja Nirodhar Maha Minkhaung Hsenwi Sawbwa Hkun Hsang Ton Hong as a new grand Haw palace.

The Haw was built as a replica of Mandalay Palace with the use of genuine teak and there were many buildings connecting to one another in the Haw. The conference hall and landed throne were located at the centre of the Haw. Sawbwa died of heart attack at 1 am on 2 Waxing of Tagu in 1277 ME (1916 AD) after reigning 33 years. Japanese Air Force bombed the entire north-ern Shan State in 1937 AD (1299 ME) and the Japanese occupied Hsenwi in 1940 AD.

In 1944 AD, US Airforce planes destroyed the Hsenwi-Namtu bridge and the town by bombing.

Among the enormous destruction of the town, the historic Haw was completely damaged to the ground. Under the guidance of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the reconstruction of the Haw started on 5 December 2019. The new Haw is being reconstructed about 63 left of its original site and about 70 percent of construction tasks have been completed. On completion, it will be maintained as a Haw Museum as a historical site for the development of tourism Afterwards, the Senior General, wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla and family members and entourages proceeded to Thiri Mingalar Mansu Shan Monastery in Lashio and paid homage to Sayadaw of the monastery Agga Maha Suddhama Jotika Dhaja Agga Maha Kammathana Cariya Dr Bhaddanta Ponnananda.

First, the Senior General and congregation asked after the health of the Sayasaw and supplicated religious affairs before offering donations. Then, the congregation offered dayalms to 100 learning monks and members of the Sangha led by Mansu Sayadaw.
