Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army)Vice-Senior General Soe Win, accompanied by SAC members U Moung Har, Saw Daniel and Dr Banya Aung Moe, Taninthayi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung, Lt-Gen Aung Soe of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief,the Coastal Region Command commander, deputy ministers and officials, visited South Dagon Oil Palm Cultivation project in Bokpyin Township this afternoon.

First, the Vice-Senior General and party arrived at the project site and viewed process of oil palm milling.

At the guesthouse, project director U Maung Maung Latt reported on project data, target production, project implementation and growing of oil palm.

After asking what he want to know, the Vice-Senior General discussed choice of quality strains rather than use of various strains in oil palm cultivation, choice of strains suitable for regional geographical conditions, creation of local jobs and regional development by SME-level manageable-scale oil palm factories, efforts for Taninthayi Region to become an oil bowl of the country as guided by the Prime Minister and measures for necessary infrastructures as production of finished oil ensures regional self-sufficiency.

Next, the Vice-Senior General and party inspected weighing, quality control, steaming and milling of oil palm seeds and step-by-step production of crude palm oil in South Dagon oil palm and crude oil plant where they were conducted round by the project director.

South Dagon Oil Palm Cultivation project started in 15 May 1995 with the aims of ensuring domestic sufficiency, reducing edible oil import, creating local jobs, facilitating regional progress and adopting a sustainable cultivation system without environmental impact.

Moreover, the Vice-Senior General and party met withn townselders and departmental staff in Khamaukgyi at the station guesthouse, gave necessary instructions on regionaldevelopment and attended to the needs.

In the morning, Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko, who was also on the inspection tour, met with departmental personnel from Bokpyin and Kyunsu townships and coordinated mattes related to regional development.

The deputy ministers also visited the departments under the related ministries and met with the service personnel.

They then left necessary instructions.
