SAC then adopted the five-point roadmap and nine political, economic and social objectives and is making utmost efforts for the progress and prosperity of the country and socio-economic development of the people.

As this year is the pre-Diamond Jubilee for the Independence Day, it has been designated as the year of peace. SAC will strive utmost for the people to fully enjoy the essence of independence, regained 75 years ago, democracy and peace and progress, which they had never fully enjoyed in the past.

Media sector needs to disseminate democracy knowledge and ideas and persuade youths to steer well on the path of learning till they become persons having modern education knowledge.

It should also help develop the socio-economy of the people in the interest of the State within its ethical framework.

The impact of media is so effective in this age of information and technology. Some big countries adopt their strategies that involve the arrangements to influence and control the media of small countries. Hence, all should have the wisdom, vision and knowledge in doing their job. Freedom of expression, good governance and progress is the essential part of a democratic society.

It is assumed that the media plays an important role in it.

But when the media falls under the manipulation of groups with political and economic cloud it ignores the public outlook, opinions and complaints.

The worst is that in such situations the media even fuels the conflicts instead of mitigating them. This situation can be found mostly in countries still in the democratization process and developing countries.

Nowadays, all human societies have influence over the media through various means. So, all the media should strive to boost their energy and improve their ability.

MRTV of the Ministry of Information changed its name from Rangoon Radio to Burma Broadcasting Service (BBS) on 15 February 1946. Based on this date, which is also called Bamar Athan Day, it changed its name to Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV).

During the successive years, it has been shouldering its duty to inform, educate and entertain.

Efforts are being made to improve the quality of news and TV programmes in line with the advancing technologies and serve the interest of the people through media. Presentation of those programmes will also be novel.

With the use of more mobile phones starting in 2013, news and information availability via internet is increasing. Spread of news has become more important with the use of social media platform.

Therefore, MRTV tried to launch an MRTV application in 2013. For various reasons, only the Android application could be temporarily used and there was no broadcast across the world. Now with the use communication technologies like in HD TV channels, it has become available on both Android and IOS phones. MRTV programmes are now available on laptops, desktop computers, iPads and Note Pads as well as well as on its website.

The MRTV app will broadcast its programmes by hiring four international satellites. So, 46 Myanmar embassies can now view them. Plans are underway for 181 countries to view them as well.

The programmes will be broadcast not only in Myanmar but also five foreign languages such as English, Spanish, French and German. The national people can watch the activities of the government and the country’s prevailing conditions. They will also spread extensively to the world.

MRTV has been dutiful throughout successive eras and able to catch up with the changing technologies. And this is a landmark MRTV has achieved.

This also means the SAC has achieved a significant success when it is serving State duties of a government.

The media are urged to serve the public interest in accord with the ethics by obtaining and disseminating correct news. I wish our country peace and prosperity through cooperation of all the national brethren in serving the interests of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in the Myanmar New year period.

Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn explained MRTV app and web activities and media development efforts.

Then, the Senior General pressed the button to launch MRTV Media Worldwide Mobile Satellite Data Application Service.

The union minister presented the Senior General with a gift as a gesture hailing the launch of the MRTV media application.
