State Ovadacariya Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Bhaddanta Saddhiya, Principal of Punyaneinmitayama Shwethuwun Monastery,Kyipwayae ward, Thingangyun  Township, Yangon Region, passed away at 1.40 am on 21 (Saturday) May 2022.

Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife, Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, accompanied by SAC member Admiral Tin Aung San and wife, Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko, Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Tun Aung, senior military officers from the Office of the Commanderin-Chief, the Yangon Command commander and officials, paid respects to the remains of the Sayadaw at the monastery this afternoon.

First, the Senior General paid respects to Ovadacariya Sayadaws of the funeral-rites led by Secretary of Kachin State Sangha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Ketumala, the Principal of Dhammaretkhita Wuntho Monastery Myitkyina, and supplicated matters relating to the funeralrites puja ceremony and looked into the requirements.

He then presented offertories to Dhammaretkhita Wuntho Monastery Sayadaw.

The Senior General presented cash donations for the funeralrites puja ceremony through the Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture.

The Senior General and wife and party paid respects to the remains of Shwethuwun Sayadaw.

The would-be Bhaddanta Saddhiya was born of parents U Htwe and Daw Hnin Aye at Aungchantha (Khanbei Village), Wundwin Township, Meiktila District, on 11 waxing of Nattaw 1300 ME. He was the eldest of the six siblings. He was a pupil of Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kusala of Mhankyaung Monastery, Aungchantha (Khanbei Village), and become a novice monk in 1311 ME. He became a monk in 1319 under the patronage of Yelei Sayadaw in Khanta Ordination Hall of Minkyaungtaik Monastery in Myittha. He passed government-sponsored Pahtamabyan examinations every year. While the Sayadaw was a novice, the then President U Win Maung conferred on him the Sasanadhaja Siripavadhammacariya Title after passing the three ordinary treatises and three honorary treatises in 1319. He continued to pass the different levels of religious

examinations. In 1981, he attended the Nalanda Postgraduate School under Darbhanga University in Bihar State, where Buddha attained enlightenment and got Acariya degree in 1982. He was also conferred on M.A. Buddhist Study by Magadh University in 1986. The Sayadaw made efforts to systemize the pariyatti studies and the establishment of pagodas in regions and states, compiled religious treatises, served as the chairman of Myanmar Calendar Advisory Board, set up Buddhist Literature Association and published and preserved various kinds of books, computerized the Pitaka and built station hospital. Due to his services in the interest of the race, language and religion and continued efforts in the multiple sectors for the perpetuation of the Sasana, the State conferred on him Agga Maha Jotika Dhaja title in 1997, Agga Maha Pandita Title in 2007, Doctor of Letters Title in 2017, Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Title in 2019 and Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Title 2021.
