SAC Chairman Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspects progress of Myanma Tharkaung War Veterans Housing (Laydauntkan)

Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by Council member Admiral Tin Aung San, Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe, Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Soe Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Tun Aung, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, Vice-Chairman of Myanmar War Veterans Organization Lt-Gen Ye Aung, Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Nyunt Win Swe, Mayor U Bo Htay and officials, this afternoon, inspected progress in construction of Myanma Tharkaung War Veterans Housing (Laydauntkan) in Dagon Myothit (South) Township in Yangon Region.

At the briefing hall, Quartermaster General Lt-Gen Kyaw Swa Lin, Commander Maj-Gen Nyunt Win Swe and Director of Military Engineers Maj-Gen Myo Thant reported to the Senior General on settlement of war veterans and families at the housing, extended construction of housings, growing of shade trees, supply of water and electricity, raising of advanced layer farms for food, accommodation and livelihoods of war veterans, operation of garment factory, welfare tasks in the housing, construction of playground and library in the housing.

After hearing the reports, the Senior General stressed the need to arrange settlement of war veterans at remaining apartments although completed apartments have been allotted to war veterans and families.

As it is a urban project, emphasis must be placed on enhancement of education qualification of family members. Arrangements are being made to establish the businesses based on agriculture and livestock farms, vocational training schools and jobs, technical high school, agriculture and livestock high school in the compound of the housing. Hence, it is necessary to encourage the education enhancement tasks. Moreover, the Senior General urged officials to build a modern shopping mall for enhancement of living standard of the local people. Officials need to offer investments from businesspersons to the housing for operating businesses where war veterans and families based on their age limit can work. It is necessary to currently initiate the pastureland for livestock farms in the project. Preparations must be made for operating the modern livestock farms which cannot take large farm areas and left instructions on smooth transportation with good conditions of roads.

The Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development, the Chief Minister of Yangon Region, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the mayor, the Vice-Chairman of WVO and members of Yangon Region War Veterans Organization reported on suitable contents in urbanization, proper drainage system, and implementation for tasks of education, health and job opportunities. The Senior General responded to the reports.

The Senior General and party cordially greeted the war veterans and families from the housing and viewed round the housing project by car.

Myanma Tharkaung War Veterans Housing (Laydauntkan) project was stated in 2017 with the aim of establishing the war veteran city for those who took retirement from the Tatmadaw with wishes to reside in Yangon.

The project will be a urban project facilitated with education, health, social, economic and other basic needs of residents from the housing. The housing comprises hospital, school and library. War veterans and families are resettled there, and the housing is being extended in construction.
