SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win addresses work coordination meeting of Steering Committee to hold 21st Myanmar Traditional Practitioners Conference and Myanmar Traditional Medicine Seminar and work committee

Steering Committee to hold 21st Myanmar Traditional Practitioners Conference and Myanmar Traditional Medicine Seminar and work committee held work coordination meeting at Ministry of Health here this afternoon, addressed by Patron of the steering committee Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win.

Present were members of the steering committee and the work committee and officials.

The Vice-Senior General said the meeting is held to resume the annual conference and seminar, which were adjourned since 2019, on 8 and 9 December during the pre-Diamond Jubilee Independence Day period in accord with the practice of holding them every year by Health Ministry in the leading role, with the participation of related ministries.

Multi-sector development of Myanmar traditional medicine profession and quality improvement of traditional medicines, capacity and ethical improvement of practitioners, further progress of traditional medicine science and production methods through internal and external involvement are the aims of the conference and concerted efforts are required to implement them.

The aims of the seminar are to bring about skilled practitioners, who can extend public healthcare through traditional therapies, to broaden research programs for manufacturing safe and potent medicines, and to cooperate with local practitioners in extending public primary healthcare services and health awareness campaigns till reaching rural areas.

Currently, it can be seen that people from global countries are still using the traditional medicines for public healthcare services. Efforts are being made to cure the COVID-19 pandemic with the traditional medicines across the world while Myanmar is conducting the research on ‘Withama’ medicine to cure COVID-19 and other seasonal flu for the patients safely. Now, it is reported that the final stage of research has been completed successfully.

In fact, Myanmar traditional medicine practitioners have been providing healthcare of the people in successive eras.

The Vice-Senior General noted that it is necessary to arrange the forthcoming conference and seminar to be preserved as a national culture for the Myanmar traditional medicine science which is a traditional heritage of the nation.

As the government is giving special encouragement to development of Myanmar traditional medicine science, the Myanmar Traditional Medicine Council needs to supervise the acts of traditional medicine practitioners in abiding by the relevant ethics through the conferences.

The Vice-Senior General urged all to hold the conference and seminar on traditional medicines in order to make efforts to further improve development process of Myanmar traditional medicine science and stressed the expert representatives from the Ministry of Health and relevant ministries and those from various sectors to strive for successfully holding the conference.

Myanmar traditional medicine production industries included in the MSME businesses of the nation contribute to the increase of GDP of the State.

The government also assists in production of Myanmar traditional medicines as much as it can.

The Vice-Senior General underlined the committees have to make utmost for successfully holding the conference and the seminar in their respective sectors.

Chairman of the Leading Committee Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win reported on purpose of holding the conference and seminar and plans to successfully hold the seminar.

Chairman of the work committee Deputy Minister for Health Dr Aye Tun and Secretary of the work committee Director General Dr Su Su Dwe of Traditional Medicine Department reported on functions of the leading committee and work committee for successfully holding the seminar, annual holding of the conferences and seminars, progress of works and preparations for holding the conference and semimar and detailed functions.

Officials from work committee and subcommittees participated in discussions on successful holding of the conference and seminar. The Vice-Senior General coordinated the reports.

In conclusion, the Vice-Senior General stressed the need to systematically carry out the assigned duties without fail, urging all to make concerted efforts for holding the conference and seminar on a grander scale as now is time to prepare the Dismond Jubilee Independence Day ceremony.
