SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win attends reception to mark 75th Anniversary Myanmar-Russia Diplomatic relations

Reception to mark the 75th Anniversary (Diamond Jubilee) of Myanmar-Russia Diplomatic Relations was held at Hilton Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw this evening, attended by Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win.

Also present were the SAC Joint Secretary, SAC members, the Constitutional Tribunal chairman, Union ministers, the Nay Pyi Taw Council chairman, senior military officers, deputy ministers, ambassadors, diplomats, heads of department, officials and distinguished guests.

The ceremony was opened with the national anthems of Myanmar and Russia. Ambassador of Russia to Myanmar H.E.Dr. Nikolay LISTOPADOV extended greetings.

In his address delivered in honour of the occasion, the Vice-Senior General said Myanmarand Russia established diplomatic relations on 18 February 1948. The relations between Myanmar and Russia are further strengthening as the two countries have maintained and valued their closer friendship. Myanmar values Russia’s constant support for it in international affairs during the time.

The Russian-built facilities including Sao San Tun Hospital opened in 1961 in Taunggyi, Shan State, Yangon Technological University opened in 1961, Inya Lake Hotel opened in Yangon in 1962, and Kyetmaungtaung Dam opened in 1967 always stand as symbols of the two country’s good relations in the early periods.

Since the mid period from 1980 to 1990, and till now, new generation Myanmar youths, who own the future, have been sent to Russia to be imbued more with intellectual and technological knowledge and to further promote the defence power of the country. Since the SAC assumed State duties in 2021, both countries have been witnessing significant progress in their bilateral relations. It is an honour to declare that nowadays, Myanmar-Russia relations and cooperation have reached their highest point thanks to the vision of leaders and joint efforts of both countries. Well operating cooperation mechanisms have further enhanced trust and understanding in the existing friendship and extended the scope of people-to-people cooperation.

He expressed belief that new areas and prospects for future cooperation that will produce extra benefits for both countries still remain. He said Myanmar is preparing to open consulates general in Saint Petersburg and Novosibirsk soon to realize the prospects. He expressed belief that the new consulates general will become a reliable support to send bilateral friendship and cooperation to a new level.

At the time when the two countries are striving to open a new chapter in bilateral relations, the 75th Anniversary serves as an opportunity to honour the existing special friendship and partnership between Myanmar and Russia. In addition to remembering the 75th Anniversary diplomatic relations, it is a time to make further pledges to extend the existing bilateral friendship and cooperation. He then lauded the governments and peoples of the two countries for their 75 years of successful journey.

The Vice-Senior General prayed for the perpetuation and strengthening of P2P friendship,the continued development and prosperity of Russia and Russians and the health and happiness of the leaders and friends of the two countries.

Afterwards, the Vice-Senior General and the Russian ambassador cut the 75th Anniversary commemorative cake and posed for a documentary photo together with attendees.

The Vice-Senior General and the ambassador watched the entertainment programs of Russian dance troupes and presented flower baskets to them. They then enjoyed the dinner together with the attendees.
