Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attends opening ceremony of 2023 58th Myanma Gems Emporium

The opening ceremony of 2023 58th Myanma Gems Emporium was held at Mani Yadana Jade Hall in Nay Pyi Taw this morning, attended by Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

Also present together with the Senior General were SAC Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, SAC members Admiral Tin Aung San, Lt-Gen Moe Myint Tun, Lt-Gen Soe Htut, Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, U Maung Ko, U Shwe Kyein, Union ministers, Union level officials, the Nay Pyi Taw Council chairman, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the Nay Pyi Taw Command commander, departmental officials, officials of Myanmar Gems and Jewellery Entrepreneurs Association, honoured guests and local and foreign gem merchants.

First, the Senior General and attendees watched a documentary video on sale and production of Myanmar pearls, gems and preparations for the emporium.

They were then conducted round the jade, gem and pearl lots displayed at the Mani Yandana Jade Hall for sale at the emporium by officials. The Senior General gave guidance.

The Senior General and party visited the showrooms where private-owned polished gems are sold and observed a 35-ton jade boulder mined by Metlinchaun joint-venture (2) at Lonkin/ Hpakant gem land and raw jade lots displayed outside the hall.

Myanmar has been holding gems emporiums since 1964 to sell the mined gems with the goal of earning foreign exchange and benefitting the citizens.

The current exhibition will sell 295 pearl lots, 120 gem lots and 2,150 jade lots to local and foreign gem merchants under open tender system in accord with the rules. The floor price of pearl lots is fixed in USD, foreign merchants can buy them in USD, Euro, Yuan and Baht and local merchants in kyat equivalent to prevailing USD price.

The floor price of gem and jade lots is fixed in Euro, foreign merchants can buy them in USD, Euro, Yuan and Baht and local merchants in kyat equivalent to Euro. Local and foreign merchants can buy jade lots that will be sold only in foreign exchange in USD, Euro, Yuan and Baht. Local merchants can buy jade lots that will be sold in FE or Kyat in Kyat equivalent to Euro and foreign merchants in Euro or USD or Yuan or Baht equivalent to Euro. The emporium will use the open tender system as per the rules. The emporium started today and continues till 23 March.
