Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win meets departmental staff, rescue and relief teams and charity organizations in Maungtaw and Buthidaung townships

    Chairman of the National Natural Disaster Management Committee Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, who is currently in Sittwe, and his entourage inspected rehabilitation work in Maungtaw and Buthidaung townships this afternoon,and separately met with departmental staff, rescue and relief teams and charity organizations at the district/township general administration offices.

First, chairmen of district/township administration bodies from Maungtaw and Buthidaung and senior officers tasked with supervising the rehabilitation work reported on ongoing rehabilitation tasks in the aftermath of the storm, providing of construction materials, preparations to ensure enough food supplies and prompt reconstruction of damaged schools. The Vice-Senior General then attended to the needs.

Then, the Vice-Senior General explained functioning of Disaster Management Centre-DMC, prioritizing the reconstruction of education, health, religious and governmental buildings, priority measures to ensure all the people live under the roof, plans for ploughing work and distribution of seeds for monsoon crop cultivation, measures to start opening schools on 1 June and efforts to ensure that students study under the roof, 99 percent completion of repairs of township-wise communication lines, storage of 10,000 tons of rice reserves (200,000 bags) before the storm, and the need to continue maintaining the tradition of unity and cooperation in rehabilitation work. After hearing reports from those present, he also attended to the needs. He then presented foodstuffs to the relief and rescue teams and charity organizations.

The Vice-Senior General and party visited the monasteries in Maungtaw and Buthidaung where they paid homage and offered rice and alms to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha.

Afterwards, the Vice-Senior General and party inspected repair of buildings damaged by the storm at the people’s hospitals in Maungtaw and Buthidaung.

They then comforted the patients and presented food and cash assistance.

Later, the Vice-Senior General met officers, other ranks and their families at the local battalion and police force members and their families in the two townships. After hearing reports, the Vice-Senior General coordinated necessary matters and presented foodstuffs and cash awards.
