Try to become a model force as MCG was systematically established as new chapter of history

Nay Pyi Taw October 6

The second anniversary of the founding of the Myanmar Coast Guard,  established on 6 October 2021 with the aim of safeguarding Myanmar seas and maritime interest and blue sea economic businesses, preventing threats against maritime security, enforcing rule of law at sea and carrying out humanitarian activities, and supporting the Tatmadaw (Navy) during emergency times, was held today addressed by Chairman of State Administration Council Commander-in- Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

Also present together with the Senior General were SAC members Union Minister for Defence Admiral Tin Aung San, Lt-Gen Nyo Saw, union level officials, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander- in-Chief, the Yangon Command commander, Director General of Myanmar Coast Guard Rear-Admiral Ko Ko Kyaw, and officers and other ranks of Tatmadaw (Navy) and Myanmar Coast Guard.

Formation of MCG and successful realization of its aims

The Senior General said it is the second founding anniversary of the nation’s first coast guard, commissioned into service by him. The State had provided material and structural support to the MCG to the most possible degree during the two years, and it will continue this task. Myanmar has long and wide territorial waters, dotted with numerous islands, rich in natural resources and economic opportunities. Hence, a coast guard is required to totally safeguard the country’s territorial seas and coastal areas in addition to the Navy. The country took time in making preparations and studying the structures of the coast guards of other countries.

Normally, a coast guard has the duty to enforce the rule of law along the coast and at the territorial seas and provide humanitarian assistance. Officers and other ranks of MCG have erected a milestone in the country’s coastguard history. country’s coastguard history.

As MCG was systematically set up with human resources and vessels supplied by the Navy, MCG members should strive to turn their organization into aodel force.

In the absence of a coast guard, the Navy had to protect the country’s  territorial seas and maritime interests and resources, ensure maritime security in the past. Now, the MCG’s primeval duty is the enforcement of the maritime rule of law and provision of humanitarian aid. It is also responsible for protecting maritime interest, search and rescue operations, and environment conservation at sea.

Harmonious training, administration, welfare and morale boosting activities MCG will have to cooperate with its neighbouring and regional counterparts and must be dutiful in realizing the aims.

It needs constant training programs to perform its task dutifully. As training improves physical and spiritual ability, it also helps individuals to effectively apply their skills in utilizing the power of vessels and equipment. Individual skills as well as complete sets of gear are required in carrying out search and rescue operations.

Hence, the State will fulfill the requirement. Members of the coast guard must know the local and international maritime laws and rules, and only then will they be able to streamline their task and widen their scope of international relations. Hence, MCG members should try to acquire position-wise knowledge of the local and international maritime laws and rules.

In connection with administrative affairs, it is necessary to show good governance of the units by maintaining proper hierarchy and taking systematic measures. Rightful benefits of individual personnel must be fulfilled and their social and health issues must be addressed as much as possible.

In connection with welfare, individual personnel are required to take care of one's welfare while units are providing welfare for personnel as much as possible. Allowing oneself to do as one wishes can harm oneself and one's surroundings while pampering personnel under one's command can harm  disciplines of units. Therefore, it is necessary to build good units by making individual personnel adopt systematic ways of life under correct leadership.

Personnel of the Tatmadaw, the police and the coast guard are those who have joined their units out of their own convictions to defend the country and the Tatmadaw and to protect the lives and property of citizens. It is necessary for individual personnel to keep their good convictions alive and to perform duties assigned to them responsibly. Strong convictions can contribute to observing disciplines and it is necessary to build a capable force by taking measures by linking the four factors such as training, administration, welfare and convictions.

It is the second anniversary of the Myanmar Coast Guard and the rule of law and defence duties performed by the coast guard in the maritime territory during the two years have been appreciated. Coast guard personnel are urged to show higher capabilities, to make the coast guard a model force and to strive to continue to stand as a capable force.
