SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win attends opening of Inter-Technological and Computer University Sports Competition for 2023-2024 AY of Ministry of Science and Technology

The opening of Inter-Technological and Computer University Sports Competition for 2023- 2024 Academic Year of Ministry of Science and Technology took place at Wunna Theikdi Gymnasium B in Nay Pyi Taw this afternoon, with an address by Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win.

Also present on the occasion were SAC members, Union ministers, the chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council, senior military officers, deputy ministers, per[1]manent secretaries, directorsgeneral and officials, leaders of sports contingents from technological universities and universities of computer studies, managers, coaches and student athletes.

First, the Vice-Senior General delivered an address, saying that the sports competitions aim to enhance sports standards of these universities, emerge national selected players via university selected players, enable students to have good practices on physical strength, health and fitness, unity and team works in addition to school education, and emerge morale, disciplined and qualified athletes.

It is necessary to turn out healthy and fit youths with knowledge and techniques and human resources for development of the nation. Engineering and information technology are essential for nation-building endeavours and development  of a country.Hence, technological universities and universities of computer studies teach engineering subjects and IT to students and extend more subjects suitable for relevant regions.

At present, Nay Pyi Taw Technological University extends teaching of agricultural engineering subject for modernizing agriculture and livestock farms with advanced techniques. The Ministry of Science and Technology targets to turn out qualified engineers, computer professionals and architects as human resources. Moreover, arrangements are being made to establish the polytechnic university combined with technological universities and universities of computer studies in order to enhance vocational capacity of students in science, technology, engineering and mathematic fields and to be qualified in the workplaces with necessary quantities.

Efforts are being made to turn out human resources reliable of the State and they must be qualified in relevant profession and morale, following engineering and professional ethics. In addition, in line with three social objectives of the State Administration Council, the inter-university sports competitions are held for student youths who are a primary strength for development of the State in implementing the comprehensive education, NAY PYI TAW January 21 SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win attends opening of Inter-Technological and Computer University Sports Competition for 2023-2024 AY of Ministry of Science and Technology raising moral and physical health and fitness and nurturing the students to have five strengths of capacity.

In addition to the sports competitions, universities have been facilitated with football grounds, gymnasiums and sports equipment yearly for students to take sports exercise during interval and taking sports practices during relaxation for ensuring strengthening of morality. Annually, inter-university sports events are being held. In the history of sports sector, engineering students became university selected players and then national selected players.

Health, as the saying goes, is wealth and the head of state has given guidance to take part in sports not only in the sports season but also in all three seasons including the summer, rainy and cold seasons. Therefore, youths and students are required to participate in one of the sports consistently to become healthy and fit. It gives me great pleasure to see that the Ministry of Science and Technology have organized ministry-level foot ball matches, Sepak Takraw matches, badminton matches and table tennis matches this year although it could only organize football matches last year.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, inter-technology and computer university sports competitions will be held for 13 days as of today and a total of 14 teams organized in respective regions will take part in the competitions. It is hoped that the competitions will be effective ones in accordance with their objectives. It is fully expected that outstanding national sport athletes for the country will surely emerge from the competitions. It gives me great pleasure to learn that a total of 437 members of sport teams including managers, coaches and athletes from technological universities and universities of computer science across the country. It is fully hoped that national athletes who will live up to the image of their universities and the ministry will emerge from the competitions.

In conclusion, the Vice-Senior General urged the athletes to try to be mentally strong, disciplined, healthy, fit and ethical intellectuals and intelligentsia and future valuable sons and daughters who will serve the interests of the country and to compete systematically and properly to achieve success as national athletes by grabbing medals for respective universities through relentless efforts out of the sport spirit and formally opened the sport competitions.

Then, the athletes bore the commemorative flag of the event together and raised it before making sport pledges. Afterward, the Vice-Senior General and party cordially greeted the team managers, coaches and athletes.

Then, the Vice-Senior General and attendees enjoyed the demonstrations, music, aerobic and Zumba dances and taekwondo demonstration of staff of the ministry, new generation athletes from the Myanmar Wushu Federation and students from technology and computer universities.

The inter-university games are being organized from 21 January to 2 February at the Wunna Theikdi Stadium, other stadiums and soccer training fields in Nay Pyi Taw.
