Donations were accepted to carry out rehabilitation at the earliest time and at this ceremony the total of donations exceeded Ks -10 billion. There are also many other donors who visited the flood-hit areas to make donations. It is a pleasure to witness the generosity, pure goodwill, good morality as they are decent and honourable deeds. If all citizens act with this kind of spirit, it will be much helpful for national development. He also explained the inspection tours to survey the situation of floods and conduct rehabilitation soonest and the less damage caused by the recent heavy rains in Bagan thanks to the preparatory programs set after taking the lessons of the inundation caused by cyclone Mocha.
It is necessary to make preparations to minimize the damage in the future through learning lessons from the natural disasters that have occurred in the country and systematically carry out tasks of waterway maintenance along the rivers and creeks in the country every year. It is also necessary to take measures to choose lands for construction of public buildings including schools and hospitals and new urban areas for ensuring long-term durability by considering natural disasters that may occur.
Rehabilitation tasks for the damage and loss due to the natural disaster will be carried out as soon as possible. The State will provide assistance as much as possible for the damaged houses, and it is necessary to be able to carry out rehabilitation tasks in a short period and replant suitable crops in the damaged agricultural areas. The State is providing necessary capital for agricultural tasks and the entrepreneurs at this event are requested to make investments in the tasks as much as they can afford. If done so, the flood-affected agricultural businesses could be resumed as well as manufacturing operations.
It is also necessary to think about taking similar measures for livestock businesses.
It is necessary to make systematic management to ensure that the items donated by the well-wishers with a pure heart will reach those who are really in need. We have systematically received supplies donated from abroad in a clean and colourless manner. The donors are advised to cooperate in the tasks for economic development of the nation and those for promoting the education of the citizens as well.
The State is making efforts to reopen the schools affected by the floods as soon as possible and to ensure that children's education is not behind schedule. The Government cannot do it alone, but only if all of us work together, will the country be able to achieve peace and development. It is very grateful to the well-wished donors attending today’s event for the donation, and the donors are advised to work together in the tasks for development of the nation by participating in the areas they can work.
